8th Annual National Safety Stand-Down

The 8th Annual National Safety Stand-Down takes place May 3-7. This program raises awareness about fall hazards in the construction industry, with a focus on preventing falls. Falls are the leading cause of death for construction workers, and the second leading cause of all workplace deaths according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Companies taking part in this program take time to focus on fall hazards and reinforce the importance of fall prevention with their workers. During a safety stand-down, employers talk directly to employees about safety.

During the safety stand-down, employers may conduct equipment safety inspections with employees and develop rescue plans for their workplace.

A safety stand-down provides an opportunity for employers and employees to talk about hazards, protective methods, and the company’s safety policies, goals, and expectations.

This year will be the 8th year for the annual National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction.

Emergent Safety Supply’s mission is helping our customers save lives, reduce liability risks, and create a socially responsible reputation for putting employee safety as a corporate priority. One way companies can do this is by participating in a Safety Stand-Down.

OSHA developed the fall prevention campaign in partnership with NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health), National Occupational Research Agenda, and CPWR (The Center for Construction Research and Training). This program has helped train nearly 10 million workers on fall prevention, saving lives.

Taking part in the National Safety Stand-Down is easy! Any size company can hold a stand-down. Once completed, the employer can visit the OSHA Stand-Down website to download a Certificate. Employers can provide feedback and download Certificates of Participation based on their experience.
