Women's History Month 2023

In March we continue to celebrate women in the workforce as the entire month is Women's History Month!  At Emergent Safety Supply we believe in the power of female professionals and continually strive to promote other women owned businesses.

As a PPE provider we are often working with businesses in the manufacturing and construction fields.  While they remain male-dominated industries, the increase in women with them has significantly increased over the past few decades.  Furthermore, the US government has made strides to increase female leadership roles in these, and related, industries.

President Roosevelt appointed Frances Perkins as the Secretary of Labor in 1993. According to (DOL) historic record, “Perkins, who had served brilliantly under him as New York State Commissioner of Labor while he was governor, was the logical choice and Labor was the logical place. She served as Secretary of Labor during the entire Roosevelt Administration, from 1933 to 1945. She served longer than any other Secretary in DOL's history."  Perkins created the Bureau of Labor Starndards in 1934 to permanently promote worker's safety and health.

In 1977 President Carter announced that Eula Bingham, Ph.D was appointed OSHA Director.  According to (DOL) historic record, "In her first two years OSHA set new standards for cotton dust, lead, benzene and three other industrial chemicals."

Our very own Mary Porter, Ph.D is a leader in the safety supply industry. In 2022 she was named CEO of the Year by CEO Monthly who cited her innovation in safer solutions as a key factor in her nomination. We, at Emergent Safety Supply, look forward to providing our clients with life saving solutions, as well as promoting women in the safety industry!

These are just a few examples of women leading the way for safety in the workforce.  We look forward to the continued innovations in safety by women and look to be a part of that innovation.
